Sunday 3 Feb. clear sunny skies cool to warm.
We leave Tel Aviv at 8 am and head for Jerusalem. Breakfast at our hotel was fantastic. A spread of salads, fruit, bread and honey, including fig honey. The traffic was heavy leaving Tel Aviv and entering Jerusalem.
Our first stop is the Mt of Olives and from there we look down on Jerusalem. It is an amazing sight as the walled city is quite large but the area outside the walls is vast. All around the mt of olives are graves and they cover a vast area. The important landmarks are pointed out to us including the Temple Rock where Abraham was said to have been asked by god to kill his son. It is also the same place where Mohammed night journey to heaven began. It is significant to Judaism and Islam. It has a golden dome built over it and is a Mosque. We then walk down the mountain to the garden of gethsemane and enter a church that was built there. From down below the walls look massive.
We then board the bus and head up the other side to enter the walled city and go to the wailing wall, which is part of the west wall. After time there we head off to the Rachel kibbutz for lunch, and after lunch we head to Bethlehem, which is in Palistine on the West Bank. We pass through a check point in the security wall to enter Palestine. We pick up a local guide and move on to the nativity church and then to a cave where it is believed that Jesus was born, and there is a star to mark the spot.
We then head back to Jerusalem and get to our hotel at 4.15. It has been a long day and we are looking forward to happy hour!
