Haifa - Mt Carmel 1st February.
Started off sunny but ended up cloudy. Temp about 20.
Did not sleep that well as my sinuses were blocked, now have a runny nose so maybe this is the last of it. Ann still ok.
Today we drove to the top of Mt Carmel for beautiful views on the city below us and the harbour. We had an 8 am start, much more civilised. My Carmel is where the carmelite nuns were founded. From mt Carmel we can see Lebanon across the bay! Our guide Mira was in WA a couple of years ago and after a few days she could not believe how little stress we had and she appreciated our “no worries” saying. In Israel they live under the threat of war and terrorism every day. You wouldn’t know it with people going about their normal life, but it must be an underlying current of uncertainty. Although we have not seen one armed guard or security since our arrival, unlike Egypt.
After Mt Carmel we head to Acco a port town, closer to Lebanon, which was a major crusader centre and was fortified and served as a landing area for their push to Jerusalem. They were there for over 80 years! Some of the foundation walls remain and a tunnel that led under the fort to the port for quick departures.
After lunch we head back to Tel Aviv where we are due to check in to our hotel for the next two nights. This hotel also has happy hour!!!
We are offered an optional tour for tomorrow to the Sea of Galile and 10 of the 12 agree to go. The other two are the sickest of us.
Our hotel is again lovely and Ann loves the decor. After happy hour I am feeling a lot better, hopefully I am on the improve. We depart for Galilee tomorrow at 8 am.
